Bottom-ranked Chalchuapa is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their fourth consecutive match to eighth ranked Santa Tecla (2-4) 103-75 on Tuesday evening. Santa Tecla forced 19 Chalchuapa turnovers and outrebounded them 66-46 including a 28-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. Santa Tecla looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Chalchuapa's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Santa Tecla made 9 blocks. Dominican swingman Elian Torres (201-2000) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 19 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 blocks. Dominican power forward Jose Espinal (208-1998) contributed with 16 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Naturalized Puerto Rican swingman Miguel Velez (185-1997, college: Hartnell JC) answered with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds for Chalchuapa. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion moved-up to sixth place. Chalchuapa at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. Santa Tecla are looking forward to face higher ranked Brujos (#3) in Izalco in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Chalchuapa will play on the road against Fantasmas (#4) in San Vicente and hopes to get finally their first victory. The game in Metapan was also worth to mention about. Leader San Salvador (5-0) played at the court of 5th ranked Metapan (2-3). San Salvador defeated Metapan 74-60. Cuban swingman Neysser Coutin (192-1996, agency: Pro Sports) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and Brayan Garcia chipped in 15 points and 10 rebounds. Puerto Rican Xavier Zambrana (193-1991) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated San Salvador have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 5-0 record behind leader Cojute. Metapan lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with three games lost. San Salvador will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Metapan will play on the road against Santiagueno (#7) in Usultan and it may be a tough game between close rivals. In the last game of round 5 Santa Ana was smashed by Brujos on the road 80-56.
